Infant thumb or finger sucking

 

"Dr. Janssen, should I worry about thumb or finger sucking?"
  Thumb sucking from a jaw/teeth development stand point is never a good thing.  The longer the habit persists, the greater the chance for jaw malformation.  Typically, prolonged thumb sucking beyond age 5 or 6 will result in bite problems.  The habit is best broken at a young age.
